Hydraulic double pilot operated check valves are simply check valves which can be opened by an external pilot pressure. These designs of hydraulic valve are often abbreviated as P.O check valves, and are used in a wide range of hydraulic systems.
Hydraulic Double Pilot Operated Check Valves
P.O check valves are unique in that they block the flow in one direction, much like other check valves, but can be released as soon as the right level of pilot pressure is applied. This means that, in the absence of the necessary pilot pressure, the poppet within the check valve remains sealed.
Once the required amount of pressure has been introduced, the hydraulic fluid’s free flow is allowed in the reverse direction. This feature is essentially when a system’s dual-acting cylinder needs to be positively locked.
Typically, there are two types of hydraulic pilot operated check valve. These are the threaded cartridge and pilot piston style. Most systems and users will find that these designs of valve work most effectively when in conjunction with a control valve, which allows the valve ports to vent to the tank once it has been centred.
