Splined Couplings

How Splined Couplings Work
A splined coupling connects an internally splined bore to a matching externally splined shaft. The corresponding teeth engage around the shaft, distributing the load across several contact points and creating a strong, compact drive connection.
For correct fitment, the spline standard, profile, tooth count and dimensions must match the mating shaft. Components with the same number of teeth may still be incompatible if they use a different module, pitch, tolerance or spline standard.
Pump and Motor Connections
Splined couplings are commonly used to connect hydraulic pumps and motors to engines, electric motors and gearboxes. Options may be available for Group 1, Group 2, Group 3 and larger hydraulic pump applications, as well as manufacturer-specific pumps and motors.
Some couplings use a tapered shaft connection, while others have a cylindrical or keyed bore. Not every coupling requires a keyway, so the connection type and dimensions should always be checked before ordering.

If replacing an existing coupling, compare the original component markings and measurements with the product specification. It is also helpful to confirm the make and model of the pump, motor or gearbox.
Choosing the correct specification helps ensure secure engagement, reliable power transmission and reduced wear within the drive system.
