Mechanical Clutches and Couplings
Flowfit supplies a range of robust mechanical clutches and mechanical couplings for controlled power transmission in hydraulic, industrial, agricultural and marine systems. These units allow power to be reliably engaged or disengaged between an engine, motor, gearbox or hydraulic pump and the driven equipment.
Mechanical couplings are widely used throughout the marine industry, particularly on winches and windlasses. They can be pulley-driven, mounted face-to-face with internal combustion engines, or connected directly to couplings, gear drives, gearboxes and speed reducers.
How Do Mechanical Clutches Work?
A mechanical clutch controls the transfer of torque between a driving shaft and a driven shaft. Engaging the clutch connects the power source to the equipment, while disengaging it interrupts the drive without requiring the entire system to be stopped.
This provides dependable control for hydraulic pumps and other rotating equipment where the operator needs to connect or disconnect power on demand.
Mechanical Clutch Applications
- Marine equipment – Ideal for winches, windlasses and auxiliary hydraulic systems.
- Hydraulic pump drives – Suitable for connecting engines and motors to hydraulic pumps.
- Industrial machinery – Reliable power engagement for factory and processing equipment.
- Agricultural equipment – Designed for demanding machinery and mobile hydraulic applications.
- Gear and transmission systems – Suitable for use with couplings, gearboxes and speed reducers.
